Description
Claude Mellan (1598-1688), a French draughtsman, engraver and painter, drew this painting in 1638. However, my version of the painting differs from the original painting in that I removed the text below the drawing. The Latin text “Sicut Rosa inter spinas, sic amica mea inter filias” unnecessarily distracted from the truly beautiful painting, and it would hardly mean to a man today what it meant to a man in the seventeenth century.
